It must have been twenty year ago when I first watched 'A Bridge too far'. Since then this movie influenced me and my wargaming hobby. Years ago I had 20mm Red Devils. Firstly Revell plastics and later Britannia metal miniatures. A while ago I stumpled over Warlord Games's range for their Bolt Action game and fell for their republished BAM figures. After a longish break I painted the second batch last week:
First two leader figures. Actually they're meant to be officers but I decided to use them as sergeants for my paratrooper sections.
Then a couple of riflemen wearing berets and a small 2" mortar. I have no idea whether I'll really need him but probably I won't harm to have one.
Last but not least four more careful troopers wearing the Mk. 2 Airborne steel helmet with some camouflage on it.
As you see I have to finish the bases but I wanted to take some pictures before varnishing the boys. For the DPM smock I used the same colour combination as for my earlier Red Devils. Although it looks too greenish on the detail shots the general impression on the table is rather satisfying to me. Especially because they combine well with their earlier painted chaps.
Only ten men but a large step to my initial 500 points army for Bolt Action. Only twelve men to go!
For now please don't forget to have a look at the Google+ community dedicated to 'Paint Table Saturday'.
Enjoy your weekend!
Great looking Paras, Monty. Full of character. I like the use of the O' characters as NCO's too.
ReplyDeleteMany thanks, Dean.
DeleteSuperb painting of these Stefan and the 2 inch mortar is fine as it would have been part of the platoon HQ. Likewise, I have just finished painting and varnishing my Brit Para platoon and supports and will be my next posting on my blog.
ReplyDeleteIt is good to see the camo that you have done is very similar to mine, so hopefully we are both on the right track.
After painting modern British MTP camo it was a joy and a lot quicker painting DPM.
Many thanks, Pat, your feedback is very much appreciated. As for the mortar I'll add it to the HQ but I'm not sure about his sense in Bolt Action. Anyway a very nice model. I'm looking forward to see your Paras then. :-)
DeleteLovely work Stefan, the certainly evoke memories of that splendid film and are credit to your own abilities.
ReplyDeleteMany thanks, Michael. Indeed a film which is somehow timeless for me although some of the German vehicles are rather strange...
DeleteFantastic job Stefan! I ordered a bunch of the "Polish" versions of these minis in July. Can't go wrong with Paul Hicks sculpts, and between "A Bridge too far" and "The Eagle has Landed" I've got my inspiration ready to go on DVD. :-)
ReplyDeleteMany thanks, Jason.
DeleteThe 'Eagle has landed' scenario sounds interesting. We'll play it sooner or later as well I presume.
Excellent work there Stefan!
ReplyDeleteMany thanks, Rodger.
DeleteReally nice job on these Monty. They look a treat.
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot, Paul.
DeleteGreat job Stefan! Tackling those first few Denizen smocks is a little daunting but those look great and en mass they will look terrific. This is how my Red devil platoon came out (but I want to add that mini of the Officer with an umbrella, straight out of the movie!)

Many thanks, Paul.
DeleteYour paras look indeed good, especially the smocks. The only figure with umbrella that I know is by Artizan. I'm afraid that they don't mix too well with Warlords Bolt Action range. But I'd love to add Major Digby... Maybe task for a conversion though...
Got my Paras out again this week after a long hiatus, very inspiring and now I have a few additions to make to the force including some MMG jeeps.

BTW that 2inch mortar is fantastic for laying a bit of smoke about. Really handy to drop in front of the enemy squads to cover the close assaults of your Red Devils :-)
Very nice work Monty! Looking forward to see some more of these fellows.
ReplyDeleteVery nice painting indeed!
