To be honest those figures have been lying on my lead pile for a while but during the last weeks I finally took the time to finish the horeses (they've been primed ages ago...) and to paint the riders. All in all I aimed for a twelve men unit to have them ready for any rule set from 'The Men who would be Kings' to 'Blackpowder':</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-J94hGF6CNjE/X5XR10_xIwI/AAAAAAAAHfU/6NYc6Dm_bvsxlNXxXneZXW3V5Fzsw7WhwCLcBGAsYHQ/s1277/Brit_NWF_53.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="800" data-original-width="1277" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-J94hGF6CNjE/X5XR10_xIwI/AAAAAAAAHfU/6NYc6Dm_bvsxlNXxXneZXW3V5Fzsw7WhwCLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h400/Brit_NWF_53.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">The miniatures themselves are from Perry Miniatures' sublime Sudan range. Actually they represent the 10th Hussars fighting against the Mahdi rebellion with improvised lances to catch prone enemies. After I compared them to Norie's painting I came to the conclusion that they should serve rather well. There are a couple of small inaccuracies: The blanket on the back of the saddle is missing, the 9th lancers on the painting appear to carry an Indian style water bottle, it's not clear whether there are pugrees on the painting. Anyway I was ready to accept those minor flaws. Especially since I didn't find any better models.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Sd89V8SNomY/X5XVJNeV-DI/AAAAAAAAHfg/NEy5NC7om_8XMqenpIS873mNl2yfyaSZgCLcBGAsYHQ/s850/Brit_NWF_54.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="487" data-original-width="850" height="229" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Sd89V8SNomY/X5XVJNeV-DI/AAAAAAAAHfg/NEy5NC7om_8XMqenpIS873mNl2yfyaSZgCLcBGAsYHQ/w400-h229/Brit_NWF_54.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">There are several photographs of 9th lancers during their tour of duty in 1880. On these the fellows show a variety of clothing: home service pieces, padded winter jackets, khaki jackets etc. After some pondering I decided to paint the unit uniformly in khaki jackets and blue home service trousers.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bjR96ScN14Y/X5XWPTcs33I/AAAAAAAAHfo/ehUrCfsHm8sEXKsIJ7zMBX5GVjf5T9nfgCLcBGAsYHQ/s900/Brit_NWF_55.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="520" data-original-width="900" height="231" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bjR96ScN14Y/X5XWPTcs33I/AAAAAAAAHfo/ehUrCfsHm8sEXKsIJ7zMBX5GVjf5T9nfgCLcBGAsYHQ/w400-h231/Brit_NWF_55.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">For painting the figures I employed my trousted Vallejo paints. The khaki sheme is bases on VGC 'Khaki' while most other paints where from the Vallejo Model Color range. For the first time I didn't employ Wargames Foundry's skin colour sextette but Citadel's contrast paint 'Darkoath Flesh'. I'm really pleased with the result. Especially because it safes loads of time. It's just one layer. No more no less. With the Foundry colours I painted fours to six layers to build up shades, highlights etc.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-afQnLoAT8Z8/X5XX3sUXdhI/AAAAAAAAHf0/evYutHEPfv4KmMCi2894Clba9jON7qn3wCLcBGAsYHQ/s900/Brit_NWF_56.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="572" data-original-width="900" height="254" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-afQnLoAT8Z8/X5XX3sUXdhI/AAAAAAAAHf0/evYutHEPfv4KmMCi2894Clba9jON7qn3wCLcBGAsYHQ/w400-h254/Brit_NWF_56.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">For the lances I decided to use steel pikes rather than the delivered lead ones. My experience showed that the latter tend to bent and never get straight again. Although those don't represent the bamboo lances used at that time perfectly I appreciate their durability. The pennants are self-made. I cut them from common printer paper and apprlied super glue to give them a plastic like stiffness. Finally painted them red over white.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">To pretect the models I applied a couple of layers of gloss and flat varnish by airbrush.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">That's it for now. Soon there is more NWF stuff to follow but not now. I hope you like them. Please feel free to leave a comment to let me know.</div></div>Stefan (aka. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><span style="font-size: small;">A couple of years ago Iron Duke released some wonderful sets with camels, elephants, pieces of load and other useful bits and pieces to bring a table to life. Thus on Tactica I bought a couple of these camels from Empress and they've been lying on the lead pile for a while now. Finally last week I found the time to paint them:</span></span> <br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="211" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-83SRZgVpQ7o/X3SDDz6V4fI/AAAAAAAAHFE/L-HWhG0jGT4rdZXVii_uPaeeQ90TGMKOgCLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h211/1601471241472471-0.png" width="640" /> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">The figures are of excellent quality. The sculpts and nice and detailed and the casting is superb. Literally I didn't have to clean any flash.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;"> </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial;">This time I combined Citadel Contrast Paints for the basic fur colour and the red blanket and Vallejo Model Colors for the other parts and the highlights. Afterall I'm pretty happy with my first camels. Later there's loaf to come and maybe more camels for the Camel Korps as part of the Gordon release expedition. </span> <br /></div>Stefan (aka. It's a wonderful incarnation of Kaiser Wilhelm I. which was sculpted by Alan Perry as a special miniature for Tactica 2016. I'm not sure whether I'll ever need him on table but it was a great figure to paint.</div><div><br></div><div>On the underlying picture by German painter Wilhelm Camphausen both uniform and coat appear to have the same nearly black colour. Nevertheless I decided to give my Kaiser some more play of colours. So I opted for the classic Prussian blue for the uniform and a rather greyish-blue tone for the coat. The figure is painted with Vallejo Model colours and some Citadel contrast paints here and there.</div><div><br></div><div>I hope you like it.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Here's one that is very near and dear to me:<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: red; font-size: large;"><b>King Henry V</b></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: red; font-size: large;"><b>of England</b></span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MxTm279PZZs/XJEeWA8B-OI/AAAAAAAAF7U/36yRNR7JsD0XlcDfvlT7dLB1_oqNl5UsQCLcBGAs/s1600/English_1415_001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="750" data-original-width="401" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MxTm279PZZs/XJEeWA8B-OI/AAAAAAAAF7U/36yRNR7JsD0XlcDfvlT7dLB1_oqNl5UsQCLcBGAs/s320/English_1415_001.JPG" width="170" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Actually this figure has been lying on my lead pile for ages. I've bought it a while ago when I saw that wonderful sculpt by Alan Perry but I didn't find the time to paint it. But since <i><a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_V_(1989_film)">Henry V</a></i> by Kenneth Branagh is one of my - if not just my - favourite movie I always regretted not paying attention to it.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hmjPtFXdHwA/XJEfAckCpzI/AAAAAAAAF7c/BxvXXVn1umIFYwQzgH939cA4RoK5CaMeACLcBGAs/s1600/English_1415_002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="750" data-original-width="494" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hmjPtFXdHwA/XJEfAckCpzI/AAAAAAAAF7c/BxvXXVn1umIFYwQzgH939cA4RoK5CaMeACLcBGAs/s320/English_1415_002.JPG" width="210" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Now after our ACW project came to a temporary end I took the time to splash some paint onto Harry. The figure is part of Perry Miniatures' AO01 set from their Agincourt range. He's a mounted 28mm figures of two parts: Horse and Harry. Since I didn't like the original horse delivered with my set I changed it to a more 'royal' breed with nicer horse tack.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-oyJmAHljKbo/XJEf22snrAI/AAAAAAAAF7o/yMD7Xq4AAF4-0p22VlZHIr5wpmfD-_AJQCLcBGAs/s1600/English_1415_003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="750" data-original-width="425" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-oyJmAHljKbo/XJEf22snrAI/AAAAAAAAF7o/yMD7Xq4AAF4-0p22VlZHIr5wpmfD-_AJQCLcBGAs/s320/English_1415_003.JPG" width="181" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Focussing on the single miniature was pure joy again. The sculpt is tremendously detailed and Alan even managed to work out an indication of Harry's coat of arms. Thus it was difficult but at least possible to paint his surcoat properly. I hope you like my humble piece of work.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Last but not least let me deliver the two scenes I watched / listened to over and over while painting this figure:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen="" class="YOUTUBE-iframe-video" data-thumbnail-src="https://i.ytimg.com/vi/A-yZNMWFqvM/0.jpg" frameborder="0" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/A-yZNMWFqvM?feature=player_embedded" width="320"></iframe></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen="" class="YOUTUBE-iframe-video" data-thumbnail-src="https://i.ytimg.com/vi/ikynTH9oJg8/0.jpg" frameborder="0" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/ikynTH9oJg8?feature=player_embedded" width="320"></iframe></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
That's it for now. Besides: <span style="color: red;"><b>God for England, Harry and Saint George!!</b></span></div>
Stefan (aka. Monty)http://www.blogger.com/profile/03298066752782204072noreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6145263361070888644.post-48703739495450383392019-03-20T20:13:00.000+01:002019-03-20T20:13:19.756+01:00Union Troops for Tactica<div style="text-align: justify;">
Main part of my winter efforts were troops for our presentation game at Tactica in Hamburg in February. Namely ACW Union troops. Somehow I didn't manage to post the units step by step so I'll present them all in one go now.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Infantry</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
For our game we needed several units of Union infantry. So I promised my friend Holger to deliver two 24 men units respectively four units of 12 figures. One of the units was painted before the Painting Challenge started but the other was to enter and leave the painting table around Christmas. Here it is:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hzhiq4Egba0/XIegabQD84I/AAAAAAAAF5I/ajfpicX-4ZoMX23XuYxCZpAoo7hVm3JRgCLcBGAs/s1600/Union_Inf_03.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="339" data-original-width="1000" height="216" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hzhiq4Egba0/XIegabQD84I/AAAAAAAAF5I/ajfpicX-4ZoMX23XuYxCZpAoo7hVm3JRgCLcBGAs/s640/Union_Inf_03.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The unit is made of 24 figures from the <i>Perry Miniatures</i> plastic boxes. Here obviously mainly skirmishing poses from box ACW120. Of course it's a bunch of work to clean and assemble all those parts but they deliver a wonderful variety of combinations to create unique units.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dIKLs1wfyxY/XIega7dkZuI/AAAAAAAAF5Q/fZnY0F9XQ5IdWcWrBwaZP01TG5IuEhJdwCLcBGAs/s1600/Union_Inf_04.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="519" data-original-width="702" height="236" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dIKLs1wfyxY/XIega7dkZuI/AAAAAAAAF5Q/fZnY0F9XQ5IdWcWrBwaZP01TG5IuEhJdwCLcBGAs/s320/Union_Inf_04.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Two bases carry the colours. One the Union flag and one the regimental flag. They are by top-notch flag maker <i>GMB Designs </i>who delivers some of the best flags on the market. I decided to split the colours to have them truely in the centre of the unit when fielding all six bases. When using two 12 men units then each of them keeps one flag. To my mind that looks better than having two flags in a smallish unit of three bases.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MGV2OFCXKc8/XIegbSO4igI/AAAAAAAAF5U/ZbjkTO5tKMQE9K8yl4Upd3P-hLxvCblEgCLcBGAs/s1600/Union_Inf_06.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="461" data-original-width="1000" height="180" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MGV2OFCXKc8/XIegbSO4igI/AAAAAAAAF5U/ZbjkTO5tKMQE9K8yl4Upd3P-hLxvCblEgCLcBGAs/s400/Union_Inf_06.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-YDG-L0souNw/XIegaxI6Z1I/AAAAAAAAF5M/y29p-bnzXOURrEeQRlwus_AFPYBw6u8AQCLcBGAs/s1600/Union_Inf_05.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="385" data-original-width="1000" height="150" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-YDG-L0souNw/XIegaxI6Z1I/AAAAAAAAF5M/y29p-bnzXOURrEeQRlwus_AFPYBw6u8AQCLcBGAs/s400/Union_Inf_05.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The whole unit is based with for figures per 40mm x 40mm base. Somehow that took root as our standard basing for <i>Blackpowder </i>games.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Artillery</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Every infantry brigade need a certain amount of artillery support. Thus I prepared three guns and four crew men per piece.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-iCwvaBq9srs/XIenLYQ3bLI/AAAAAAAAF5s/uUaVhizGyTwzWm3akWHUFpsHKaHkdmBRACLcBGAs/s1600/Union_Inf_07.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="448" data-original-width="1000" height="286" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-iCwvaBq9srs/XIenLYQ3bLI/AAAAAAAAF5s/uUaVhizGyTwzWm3akWHUFpsHKaHkdmBRACLcBGAs/s640/Union_Inf_07.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Two of the guns were based properly and with its crew properly attached to the base. The figures and guns are again by <i>Perry Miniatures</i> and come from their excellent plastic box. It contains enough parts to build three guns, three limbers and 18 crew. It is also versatile enough to produce either Union or Confederate artillery.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
With the describtion from the leavlet it's possible to build figures according to the ACW artillery drill which I did more or less.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The third battery is kind of unfinished. The gun itself is painted as the other pieces are but the crew is kind of substitute. All four figures are completely painted but actually they are the remaining crewmen of the first two guns. They are meant to operate the limbers but in this time of dearth they were ordered to handle the third gun. Thus they haven't been based yet...</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Yp24B7jW7IU/XIer2OfIztI/AAAAAAAAF6M/CoCKkqu_ZsA8Ru65ZIrylGSod78rKWVdwCLcBGAs/s1600/Union_Inf_10.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="309" data-original-width="1000" height="121" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Yp24B7jW7IU/XIer2OfIztI/AAAAAAAAF6M/CoCKkqu_ZsA8Ru65ZIrylGSod78rKWVdwCLcBGAs/s400/Union_Inf_10.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Command Vignettes</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Those reliable Yanks needed some commanding officers of course. For our game I had the honour and pleasure to deliver a brigade commander and a divisional commander. The first one was made from the plastic sprue that the Perrys deliver when ordering <i>Blackpowder 2</i> from them:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Clq3iTVWzmY/XIeuqIqN-fI/AAAAAAAAF6k/fHQea0cBlDgz5ik6gB9lbI7zjb8u_pGewCLcBGAs/s1600/Union_Inf_12.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="500" data-original-width="400" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Clq3iTVWzmY/XIeuqIqN-fI/AAAAAAAAF6k/fHQea0cBlDgz5ik6gB9lbI7zjb8u_pGewCLcBGAs/s320/Union_Inf_12.JPG" width="256" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Actually I wanted to give him a standard bearer aside but then I noticed that this plastic figure is significantly smaller then the metal cavalry figures. Thus he had to stay on his own and I mounted him on a rund 40mm base. Nevertheless it's a wonderful frame. It has enough parts to build a Union or Confederate officer and has a large variety of options. Additionally it's compatible with the plastic boxes delivering even more options. For this very special incarnation of a Union colonel I used the plastic figure as a base, assembled another head and made shoulder straps and collar from greenstuff. Actually the figure comes with seperate plastic shoulder straps but I cut them when I tried to loosen them from the sprue so I had to sculpt new ones.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
However our division needed a commander so I made another base representing this honourable officer:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-14NTQCvoiIY/XIev5vNzqLI/AAAAAAAAF6w/l6ltimDDPbI-NS7OJvPanqGRaEwkGp4_gCLcBGAs/s1600/Union_Inf_13.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="750" data-original-width="696" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-14NTQCvoiIY/XIev5vNzqLI/AAAAAAAAF6w/l6ltimDDPbI-NS7OJvPanqGRaEwkGp4_gCLcBGAs/s400/Union_Inf_13.JPG" width="370" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Here we have three mounted soldiers. All by <i>Perry Miniatures</i> as well: One mounted general, a standard bearer and a trumpeter. The officer comes from one of the mounted generals sets while the soldiers are actually cavalrymen in sack coates. From my humble point suitable enough for an escort.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kQBFt7RNbIQ/XIex4a74vhI/AAAAAAAAF68/ehh9AZ0CYHwNXecLNzQ7bWeEIzqCdpb6QCLcBGAs/s1600/Union_Inf_14.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="750" data-original-width="698" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kQBFt7RNbIQ/XIex4a74vhI/AAAAAAAAF68/ehh9AZ0CYHwNXecLNzQ7bWeEIzqCdpb6QCLcBGAs/s400/Union_Inf_14.JPG" width="371" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This time the flag isn't by <i>GMB</i>. It's rather a product of yours truely himself because he forgot to order the correct standard and didn't realise it until it was too late. Thus there was no other way then printing the flag by himself. Anyway I'm rather satisfied with the result.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Summary</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Well that's it. In addition to the priorly painted unit all the stuff I brought to Tactica and main project this winter:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<ul>
<li>24 men unit of infantry. Flags by GMB only glued to shape and edges repainted. Whole unit based on 40mm x 40mm bases with four figures per base.</li>
<li>3 artillery pieces and 12 crewmen. Two guns with crew based on scenic bases, one gun and four crewmen unbased.</li>
<li>1 mounted brigade commander. Based on 40mm round base. Multi-part plastic figure with converted head. Collar and rank insignia resculpted with greenstuff.</li>
<li>3 men divisional command vignette. Three mounted figures. Standard self-made. Based on an oval base of 100mm x 50mm</li>
</ul>
Having finished those in time really made me happy and maybe kind of proud. Although my club fellows brought more figures by far, it was the largest amount of figures I provided to a presentation game until now. We'll set up ACW for another small convention in Germany again and I'm looking forward to seeing my Yanks on the field again. In Hamburg they earned their stripes and helped to win the day twice.Stefan (aka. For this theme round I've held back a couple of miniatures I painted at the very beginning of the painting challenge. Those figures are from CoolMiniorNot's board game <i>SMOG - The Rise of Moloch</i> and are representing a couple of members of the honourable Unicorn Club.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-eBlAgny599U/XHqx-XiSUrI/AAAAAAAAF3w/aDZLYTyOtxQVyX7LSjzfDItik9a0GbRvACLcBGAs/s1600/SMOG_001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="687" data-original-width="1200" height="364" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-eBlAgny599U/XHqx-XiSUrI/AAAAAAAAF3w/aDZLYTyOtxQVyX7LSjzfDItik9a0GbRvACLcBGAs/s640/SMOG_001.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The Unicorn Club is a secret society of ladies and gentlemen gathering their powers to tackle down the forces of evil (vulgo the Nemesis) and hamper the return of Moloch a demonic world destroying creature of unspeakable cruelty.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bn0MTYkhqxE/XHqycFpL90I/AAAAAAAAF34/92_SeCLQNLMgJDpJZEtq0TRSN7p7FzyHACLcBGAs/s1600/SMOG_002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="500" data-original-width="708" height="224" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bn0MTYkhqxE/XHqycFpL90I/AAAAAAAAF34/92_SeCLQNLMgJDpJZEtq0TRSN7p7FzyHACLcBGAs/s320/SMOG_002.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Some of the gentlemen are inspired by Imperial literature like brave Peachey Carnehan from <i>The Man who would be King</i> (above, left hand side).</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZSEfVsEF3js/XHqzJxxukJI/AAAAAAAAF4A/6h5QCZYoUdU-UqMdI-Z27jeLpTFvmpwqwCLcBGAs/s1600/SMOG_003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="501" data-original-width="700" height="228" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZSEfVsEF3js/XHqzJxxukJI/AAAAAAAAF4A/6h5QCZYoUdU-UqMdI-Z27jeLpTFvmpwqwCLcBGAs/s320/SMOG_003.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Others are inspired by pure fantasy like Mr Fox (above, right hand side).</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xJt2YYUkwSI/XHqzddZOwGI/AAAAAAAAF4I/7VNOrUqhyq0ZCEUH_OvVy7vMRd8iJt8kACLcBGAs/s1600/SMOG_004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="650" data-original-width="813" height="255" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xJt2YYUkwSI/XHqzddZOwGI/AAAAAAAAF4I/7VNOrUqhyq0ZCEUH_OvVy7vMRd8iJt8kACLcBGAs/s320/SMOG_004.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Anyway the game comes with an incredible lot of wonderful figures. Unfortunately I didn't dare to go all in on Kickstarter so I'm missing the expansion <i>The Wheel</i> and the figures from it. Darn, it's not released for common buyers yet!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pkYvo6BRXS0/XHqzt5NuU3I/AAAAAAAAF4Q/2N66VF-t6qIjkm0ukuwq0hSUY7PN5jX_gCLcBGAs/s1600/SMOG_005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="650" data-original-width="746" height="278" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pkYvo6BRXS0/XHqzt5NuU3I/AAAAAAAAF4Q/2N66VF-t6qIjkm0ukuwq0hSUY7PN5jX_gCLcBGAs/s320/SMOG_005.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The figures are made from the usual semi-flexible board game plastic but nevertheless cast crisp and clear with a wonderful amount of detail. Unfortunately some of the faces appear rather flat so some of the figures proved difficult to paint in that behalf.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XO0kS3jYOBs/XHq0HyZWH-I/AAAAAAAAF4Y/GuFm3XPxsOsEly0L-rzdOO3Sm3yo3oVkwCLcBGAs/s1600/SMOG_006.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="500" data-original-width="660" height="242" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XO0kS3jYOBs/XHq0HyZWH-I/AAAAAAAAF4Y/GuFm3XPxsOsEly0L-rzdOO3Sm3yo3oVkwCLcBGAs/s320/SMOG_006.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As said the club consists of men and women. Thus I was eager to paint a couple of honourable damsels as well to contribe something to <i>Sarah's Choice</i> finally.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-fGdqkQIeyNg/XHq58CGTnWI/AAAAAAAAF4k/6Oy0oAI9pvQpaXxCX56I5JXvlekBg3UEQCLcBGAs/s1600/SMOG_007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="500" data-original-width="637" height="251" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-fGdqkQIeyNg/XHq58CGTnWI/AAAAAAAAF4k/6Oy0oAI9pvQpaXxCX56I5JXvlekBg3UEQCLcBGAs/s320/SMOG_007.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
After all it was really great fun to paint these figures, They are well-detailed and full of character. Fortunately the Kickstarter campaign provided enough figures to live on for many painting sessions.<br />
<br />
As usual for CMON games SMOG is played on board tiles rather then real wargaming terrain. Thus I was on the horns of the dilemma of how to base the miniatures. They had those mandatry cast on discs below their feet but I wanted to have them more flexible and not arranged for a certain type of underground. Thus I cut and grinded away as much from those bases as possible and replaced them with clear acrylic disks. It was a dirty and labour-intensive job but I'm very happy with the result nevertheless.<br />
<br />
So that's it for the last bonus round and Sarah's choice then. Next week I present my ACW troops which saw action in Hamburg and maybe I'll finish the <i>Curtgeld</i> orc I digged out of my lead pile. Anyway the challenge is heading to it's home straight and I'm really curious about seeing what you other fellows have left in their quivers.<br />
<br />
Cheers<br />

The last have been quite but I wasn't passive. I've been preparing Union troops for our Tactica game but nevertheless I made provision for the water theme round:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-e4xDUow2Ves/XGZ0oyD5YhI/AAAAAAAAF2g/BpKnL9oIBWwbX4oseyDfczOyHZaZW0mcACLcBGAs/s1600/Cruel_Seas_017.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="229" data-original-width="1000" height="146" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-e4xDUow2Ves/XGZ0oyD5YhI/AAAAAAAAF2g/BpKnL9oIBWwbX4oseyDfczOyHZaZW0mcACLcBGAs/s640/Cruel_Seas_017.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As you see it's a Type VIIc submarine for <i>Cruel Seas</i>. The <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Type_VII_submarine">Type VII</a> was the most common German submarine in World War II. It's based on the WW I Type II submarine and was build in many different versions. The VIIc was the workhorse of the submarine fleet and 568 units were commissioned.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-v_0tidLdlUY/XGZ2Z0DigqI/AAAAAAAAF2s/P0BzAYpZUhUfrgbiCiGQAjy5PFTQ8_3WQCLcBGAs/s1600/Cruel_Seas_018.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="192" data-original-width="1000" height="122" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-v_0tidLdlUY/XGZ2Z0DigqI/AAAAAAAAF2s/P0BzAYpZUhUfrgbiCiGQAjy5PFTQ8_3WQCLcBGAs/s640/Cruel_Seas_018.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The model is based on a 1/350 model kit by Revell. Actually it's a full hull model so I needed to cut it down to waterline. Unfortunately it didn't go as smooth as necessary so I based it on thin plastic sheet and applied some waves with greenstuff.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-B7_zv6aNxRM/XGZ3F8NqrQI/AAAAAAAAF20/ivF9m0nUM9MznSkghzB-UI_X1lh-CCj5wCLcBGAs/s1600/Cruel_Seas_019.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="196" data-original-width="1000" height="124" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-B7_zv6aNxRM/XGZ3F8NqrQI/AAAAAAAAF20/ivF9m0nUM9MznSkghzB-UI_X1lh-CCj5wCLcBGAs/s640/Cruel_Seas_019.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Afterwards I painted the boat with Vallejo paints as well as thinner based washes by AK. To give it a similar look as my former Kriegsmarine E-Boats I mounted one of the flags that came with <i>Cruel Seas</i>. A bit fiddly but after all it worked.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-aL6oobMcsJA/XGZ4WR5P0wI/AAAAAAAAF3A/XUrXATJu7xUulxGz-X-z3XiTorNTRYQpQCLcBGAs/s1600/Cruel_Seas_020.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="295" data-original-width="1000" height="188" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-aL6oobMcsJA/XGZ4WR5P0wI/AAAAAAAAF3A/XUrXATJu7xUulxGz-X-z3XiTorNTRYQpQCLcBGAs/s640/Cruel_Seas_020.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
By scale the u-boat is slightly smaller then the 1/300 kits by Warlord Games but nevertheless it fits in very well. Actually it's recommended by Warlord to use 1/350 kits for larger ships.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kD1TAnYoUEU/XGZ5vNzax2I/AAAAAAAAF3M/2A0vefJtLPQZ6mfEZqUlSpvsi_46emJrwCLcBGAs/s1600/Cruel_Seas_021.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="221" data-original-width="1000" height="140" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kD1TAnYoUEU/XGZ5vNzax2I/AAAAAAAAF3M/2A0vefJtLPQZ6mfEZqUlSpvsi_46emJrwCLcBGAs/s640/Cruel_Seas_021.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
After all I'm really happy with the result and I hope you like it as well. Anyway during the next weeks I'll present my ACW troops but that's it for now. Nearly because I cannot close the post without delivering the most iconic u-boat theme of all time:</div>

As some might have noticed, some friends and I have been playing <i>Imperial Assault</i> for a while. For a certain amount of time I had the idea to follow the releases to bring the whole Star Wars universe to live but luckily for my wallet Fantasy Flight Games (and in Germany Heildeberger / Asmodée) were too fast for a slow painter and volatile hobby fellow like me. Thus my efforts ended with those sets which are represented in the <i>Imperial Assault</i> app meaning the first wave at the moment.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Therefore I had a set of three rebel troopers lying around and somehow I felt it was time to splash some paint on them. Rather soon we want to continue with our campaign and we might need those allies to fight the fierde forces of the Galactic Empire. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The set contains of three troopers in the well-known uniform featured in the iconic opening sequence of episode IV. They are all nice and clean casts although all three figures are identical.<br />
<br />

<br />
Colourwise I left the greyish 1970s schene a bit and went for the more colourful blue and khaki scheme wich the computer game <i>Star Wars: Battlefront</i> delivered.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/starwars/images/6/61/Tantive_IV_Battlefront_II_promo.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20131120161011" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="556" data-original-width="800" height="277" src="https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/starwars/images/6/61/Tantive_IV_Battlefront_II_promo.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20131120161011" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
After all those models were truly fun to paint. The details all crisp and clear, the facial expression easy to follow and a simple uniform which allowed a quick painting style.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-A1W4nnXmkjw/WuLtvmR9xyI/AAAAAAAAFpw/5KkL3DdP6Nseqxf8X_t6jPnECqYrs_7oACPcBGAYYCw/s1600/IMG_20180427_112741.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="609" data-original-width="800" height="303" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-A1W4nnXmkjw/WuLtvmR9xyI/AAAAAAAAFpw/5KkL3DdP6Nseqxf8X_t6jPnECqYrs_7oACPcBGAYYCw/s400/IMG_20180427_112741.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As usual I used Vallejo paints for most parts of the figures and the Wargames Foundry skin coulours for face and hands.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Only the bases are bit of a problem. <i>Imperial Assault</i> may be set in various surroundings from the wooded areas of Endor to the dark and grimy hangars of an outer rim space port. Therefore I didn't find a good solution for shaped bases and left them greyish. So I applied some dark grey and added a series of lighter splashes.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-20Ulsvx3Biw/WuLtncMFUXI/AAAAAAAAFpw/1efm_Do933Y3xDIOwlxw_SoSUajF-nlpQCPcBGAYYCw/s1600/IMG_20180427_112636.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="556" data-original-width="320" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-20Ulsvx3Biw/WuLtncMFUXI/AAAAAAAAFpw/1efm_Do933Y3xDIOwlxw_SoSUajF-nlpQCPcBGAYYCw/s400/IMG_20180427_112636.jpg" width="230" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Nevertheless I'm still pondering about changing to clear acrylic bases but I haven't brought myself to re-basing my whole <i>Imperial Assault</i> collection yet. </div>

Lately I presented a some Vosper MTBs for <i>Cruel Seas</i> and of course they need some enemies to fight with. Although a friend of mine started to collect some German navy boats I had a couple of E-boats lying around from the starter box. So why not paint them to have some stuff for both sides ready...</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tuivDtn60gw/XC5BPiboh9I/AAAAAAAAF0s/zWtf4BTeXjos-ua1_i2Ae_OYZxmtWN5UwCLcBGAs/s1600/Cruel_Seas_013.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="522" data-original-width="1000" height="207" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tuivDtn60gw/XC5BPiboh9I/AAAAAAAAF0s/zWtf4BTeXjos-ua1_i2Ae_OYZxmtWN5UwCLcBGAs/s400/Cruel_Seas_013.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The starter set comes with two sprues with two E-boats each. One S-38 design and one better armed S-100 version. Firstly I painted the S-38 boats in a standard greyish colour scheme. Somehow I wasn't in the mood for fancy camouflage. We had a game scheduled two days later so time was precious.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-wckcgWn1UHU/XC5BYki8nkI/AAAAAAAAF0w/v_k3qBW9d7cXGfZ0fuIk_dVLSsoOqX2vACLcBGAs/s1600/Cruel_Seas_014.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="1000" height="191" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-wckcgWn1UHU/XC5BYki8nkI/AAAAAAAAF0w/v_k3qBW9d7cXGfZ0fuIk_dVLSsoOqX2vACLcBGAs/s400/Cruel_Seas_014.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The boats are armed with a 20mm gun forewards and a 37mm gun sternwards. Pretty heavy compared to the British Vospers which are employing a 20mm gun only (besides some machine guns which have the German boats as well). In addition the boats are faster than their British opponents. But more expensive in points as well.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4PQMw4B8uxI/XC5Bw_Czm_I/AAAAAAAAF08/Pr-E4OItvaMsTOHU47LAqMAAHCgaHeV9ACLcBGAs/s1600/Cruel_Seas_015.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="337" data-original-width="1000" height="133" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4PQMw4B8uxI/XC5Bw_Czm_I/AAAAAAAAF08/Pr-E4OItvaMsTOHU47LAqMAAHCgaHeV9ACLcBGAs/s400/Cruel_Seas_015.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The later S-100 version has a armoured bridge section and is better armed since it comes with an additionol twin 20mm gun midships. In addition it has the option to mount either the 37mm gun or a quad 20mm gun sternwards. But here Warlord really blundered. The E-boat sprue comes with only one 37mm gun which you tually need to equip the S-38 boat with. But then there's no 37mm for the S-100. Looks like somehow hasn't thought really deeply while designing that sprue...</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-d_MtokuQ2Ak/XC5B4qzjOcI/AAAAAAAAF1A/d_uHh4nt2V4jXrt-yMIUHJ86AbQqSWB2QCLcBGAs/s1600/Cruel_Seas_016.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="303" data-original-width="1000" height="120" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-d_MtokuQ2Ak/XC5B4qzjOcI/AAAAAAAAF1A/d_uHh4nt2V4jXrt-yMIUHJ86AbQqSWB2QCLcBGAs/s400/Cruel_Seas_016.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Nevertheless those boats are as nice models as the Vospers are. As you see I painted the S-100s with a darker deck based on a picture I found in an Osprey book.</div>

The fleet boxes for <i>Cruel Seas</i> really provide a nice selection of models. The Royal Navy for example come with the mandarory Vospers, some Fairmile MTB and an Armed Trawler. After rushing through the Vospers and E-boats I took the trawler as a more special model and painted it during the last days:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_Q2RtVTJeAA/XCjfevXhs3I/AAAAAAAAFzQ/-CHtv1ZrkI0JvWt-bryiHn2nSVeIua-TgCLcBGAs/s1600/Cruel_Seas_010.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="495" data-original-width="1200" height="165" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_Q2RtVTJeAA/XCjfevXhs3I/AAAAAAAAFzQ/-CHtv1ZrkI0JvWt-bryiHn2nSVeIua-TgCLcBGAs/s400/Cruel_Seas_010.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It's a large ship (though 'large' in 1/300) that comes in resin with metal parts. Overall the parts fit very well. Only the masts needed some deeper holes to fit in the hull proberly. A really nice add-on is the metal crew. They come in strips of three seamen but can be cut into single crewmembers or pairs easily. Since there were more then enough seamen for the trawler I transfered two of them to one of my Vospers to man the bridge appropriately.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The flag is again from the generic Royal Navy flag sheet by Warlord Games. But this time I used the Red Ensign instead of the White Ensign. Although I know that the Red Ensign is appropriate for British merchantmen I didn't check it on historial material. I just followed Warlord Games example... </div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-S6uZ3P7atRc/XCjjaftTmLI/AAAAAAAAFzc/08j4WWgAmmM2SP2J5v262zroc941Qgy5wCLcBGAs/s1600/Cruel_Seas_011.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="396" data-original-width="700" height="181" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-S6uZ3P7atRc/XCjjaftTmLI/AAAAAAAAFzc/08j4WWgAmmM2SP2J5v262zroc941Qgy5wCLcBGAs/s320/Cruel_Seas_011.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Anyway, the ship comes with two 3" guns and appears properly armed to scare some E-boats. The guns are nice metal pieces as well and have crew figures on them. Very nice little bits. I'd wish to see them available individually to have them available for the plastic boats. Making the guns available individually would - by the way - solve the problem with the missing 37mm gun in the German E-boat sprue...</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4qPbaItf13M/XC48AYOiR2I/AAAAAAAAF0g/7-ZeTYayz1Uc2HGY6pB-OHlT9JXriiJWACLcBGAs/s1600/Cruel_Seas_012.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="800" data-original-width="702" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4qPbaItf13M/XC48AYOiR2I/AAAAAAAAF0g/7-ZeTYayz1Uc2HGY6pB-OHlT9JXriiJWACLcBGAs/s320/Cruel_Seas_012.JPG" width="280" /></a></div>
<br />
As usual I used mostly my trustworthy Vallejo paints. Starting with a basecoat of <i>Uniform Grey</i> spray primer (by Armypainter) I applied VMC 70.924 <i>Russian Uniform WWII</i>. It's a rather light greyish green because I wanted to try a different colour scheme on the trawler. On some Warlord Games pictures their trawler looks slightly greenish so I chose this colour. Anyway the result looks even greener then desired but I'm happy with it anyway. After the colour was dry I applied some of the AK washes to get some shadows. Then drybrushing with VMC 70.821 <i>German Camoflage Beige</i> and VMC 70.884 <i>Stone Grey</i>. Finally some more AK washing for weathering especially on the lower parts of the hull.<br />
<br />
That's it for now. I hope you like it.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Cheers</div>

It was about a year ago when <i>Star Wars - Legion</i> caught my attention. First I was annoyd because Fantasy Flight Games chose another scale than their <i>Imperial Assault</i> game has. But afterall I wasn't able to resist the seduction of airspeeders and full-scale Imperial walkers. So I acquired the starter box as well as an AT-ST. Although I assembled it a while ago it sat on my to-do-shelf for a pretty long time. Now with the first bonus round of the AHPC themed 'Reconnaissance' what could be more obvious than a vehicle bearing 'scout' in his name?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This interpretation of the well-known <b>A</b>ll-<b>T</b>errain-<b>S</b>cout-<b>T</b>ransport is a huge beast. Therefor some 32mm stormtroopers for size comparison. It has a hight of over 20 centimeters with slightly bent legs. It has more or less the same size as the good old 1/48 kit by Bandai.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
For painting I used my airbrush gun to apply a medium grey base colour and light grey highlights. Afterwards I applied a selection of washes: <i>Nuln Oil</i> by Citadel and several of the thinner based washes by AK. As a finish I added some rusty brown and charcoal black pigments at several places. E.g. the feet (dust) and the shoulder gun (grime).</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
For the basing I wasn't able to decide which theatre of war I'd use the walker for. Star Wars has so many interesting places which reach from the icy planet Hoth to woody planets like Endor or desert worlds like Tatoine. So how to base a model properly to suit all these different requirements? For me it became crystal clear when I checked some aftermarket articles and stumbled over some clear acrylic bases offered by Sarissa. So I ordered enough for a small Imperial invasion force and some appropriate heavy armour.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Well that's it for now. I'm lucky to have contributed something to this first bonus round between the bunch of ACW and Cruel Seas stuff I'm working on. Hope you like my humble contibution.</div>

finally my first entry for this year's Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge:<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><span style="font-size: large;">Vospers and eels</span></b></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Shortly before Christmas Warlord released their new WWII naval skirmish game <i>Cruel Seas</i>. Frankly for a long time their wasn't a release that I was so much looking forward to. Anyway my pre-order didn't arrive in time and more than two weeks of desperate wainting overshadowed my december. Anyway shortly before Christmas the starter set arrived and I couldn't resist painting enough boats for the first couple of scenarios. So here we go with the Vospers first.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Actually the basic games comes with six Vospers but until now I've painted only four of them. They are all in 1/300 (6mm) scale but very detailed. Due to the thick plastic they appear a bit bulky but nevertheless really nice models.<br />

<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BKR4_0-HmCE/XCjRf98DddI/AAAAAAAAFyA/wFAm3Wju5KkKzhpgKaT-vDznYbskHGpWwCLcBGAs/s1600/Cruel_Seas_002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="492" data-original-width="1200" height="262" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BKR4_0-HmCE/XCjRf98DddI/AAAAAAAAFyA/wFAm3Wju5KkKzhpgKaT-vDznYbskHGpWwCLcBGAs/s640/Cruel_Seas_002.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As usual I used <i>Vallejo Moddel Colors</i> to paint the ships. Mostly different shades of grey for obcious reasons. Afterwards I used a combination of washes from <i>Citadel</i> and <i>AK</i> to apply some weathering and give the boats slightly different shadings.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-dRSFT41iqnE/XCjR-yx8teI/AAAAAAAAFyI/pyDJQOLOPYYwBEVBfEZbzs9GSWJZE7GxwCLcBGAs/s1600/Cruel_Seas_003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="617" data-original-width="750" height="328" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-dRSFT41iqnE/XCjR-yx8teI/AAAAAAAAFyI/pyDJQOLOPYYwBEVBfEZbzs9GSWJZE7GxwCLcBGAs/s400/Cruel_Seas_003.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
On one of the boats I mounted a couple of crew. They are 1/300 metal figures which Walord delivers with the British resin boats from the fleet box. They fit on the plastic boats very nicely too and are a simple conversion. Only the paint to the small gap in the breastwork of the bridge. I'd use some greenstuff to conceal that on the next batch of boats.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Since <i>Cruel Seas</i> is all about torpedo boats it makes some sense to have a couple of torpedos ready. With the starter set and the Royal Navy fleet box came to sprues with 16 torpedo markers each. Thus I took some time to paint them all in one process of piecework.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
That's Cruel Seas for now. Shortly there'll appear some German E-boats as well as an armed trawler for the Brits. My entry for the water bonus round is ready as well but let's keep this under the water surface for now. ;-)<br />

I'm in!<div style="text-align: justify;">
Nearly a years has passed with no noticebly activity on this blog. So actually there are two possible ways for 2019:</div>
<br /><div style="text-align: center;">
Monty, get off your backside and bring up content again!</div>
<br /><div style="text-align: center;">
or</div>
<br /><div style="text-align: center;">
Desert your colours and delete the whole thing!</div>
<br /> <div style="text-align: justify;">
To be hontest I've been really undecided what to do. But when I visited Crisis last month I met a couple of the finest wargaming fellows again and was reminded of the circumstances of our acqaintance namely the bloggo-sphere. Thus I realised that I'm not able and willing to throw this all away. 2019 I'll give it another go and try to get back on track.</div>
<br /><div style="text-align: center;">
To support that I decided to throw my hat in the ring of Curt's ingenious yearly painting challenge again:</div>
<br /><div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-YPnosLm0jrY/W_OlYn0fE-I/AAAAAAABOHs/hpBeiN6tlpYD2WwKS4OMIkVCkgEuhtLkQCLcBGAs/s1600/AHPCIX.jpeg"><img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-YPnosLm0jrY/W_OlYn0fE-I/AAAAAAABOHs/hpBeiN6tlpYD2WwKS4OMIkVCkgEuhtLkQCLcBGAs/s400/AHPCIX.jpeg" /></a></div>
<br /><br /><div style="text-align: justify;">
Last year I skipped the challenge but this time I was lucky enough that Curt reserved a slot for me and welcomed prodigal son with open arms. I enroled with my usual 500 pts and I'm curious whether I'll be able to fulfill that goal. Currently my plans are as follows:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<ol>
<li>Bring forth my ACW project for Tactica 2019 in Hamburg</li>
<li>Paint the ships from the <i>Cruel Seas</i> starter set</li>
<li>Pass as many bonus rounds as possible</li>
</ol>
So #1 is already running of course but several pieces of artillery and a couple of command vignettes are to be painted during the AHPC season.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
#2 must take its place behind #1 but is seductive beyond comparison. Currently I'm still waiting for my set to arrive but I'm confidant that the postman will drop it on my dorstep today or tomorrow. Additionally the play through video by Warlord Games looks stunning and I cannot wait to lay my hands on those nice little ships and lead them into battle. But our ACW presentation in Hamburg must stay at top priority.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
#3 will depend on my progress with #1 and #2. For some topics I'm on a good way but for some I have no idea what to contribute. The ideas:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<ol>
<li>Reconnaissance -- No real idea yet. Maybe a pair of AT-RT-Walker for <i>Star Wars Legion</i></li>
<li>Sport -- Perhaps a six man team for <i>Blitz Bowl</i></li>
<li>Mercenary -- No real idea yet.</li>
<li>Water Feature -- <i>Cruel Seas</i></li>
<li>Fellowship -- I have a couple of Holmes/Watson-Sets. Maybe one of those.</li>
</ol>
That's it for now. I'm looking forward to the AHPC. If you haven't taken notice of it yet please have a look at <a href="http://thepaintingchallenge.blogspot.com/">Curt's page</a>. It's packed with sublime contribution from former years and it'll get lots of new input as soon as the next challenge starts. On midnight of December 21st it's time!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Last but not least the link to the <i>Cruel Seas</i> video I mentioned earlier:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe width="320" height="266" class="YOUTUBE-iframe-video" data-thumbnail-src="https://i.ytimg.com/vi/1NBK7Cp4jeo/0.jpg" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/1NBK7Cp4jeo?feature=player_embedded" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It's nearly 80 minutes with designer Richard Carlisle and Warlord Charlie Monaghan playing one of the default scenarios from the basic rulebook. It's packed with explanations and inshore action. Frankly I cannot wait to get my copy.</div>

<span style="text-align: justify;">It's far too long since I posted some lines here. Maybe a last attempt to bring this blog to live again...</span></div>
</div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-JA2mMCJP5qU/XCjmP-DqRRI/AAAAAAAAFzo/xFoNupKrXYEcwMXEWtiuzY-1VhKHrlXowCLcBGAs/s1600/Brit_NWF_46.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="585" data-original-width="900" height="260" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-JA2mMCJP5qU/XCjmP-DqRRI/AAAAAAAAFzo/xFoNupKrXYEcwMXEWtiuzY-1VhKHrlXowCLcBGAs/s400/Brit_NWF_46.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
At Tactica 2018 some fellows and me presented a participation game featuring the 2nd Anglo-Afghan War. To decorate the battlefield we wanted some vignette which lead me to the humble piece.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-YBhr7mNsg_A/XCjmegZt_0I/AAAAAAAAFzs/qFL6Ug4-LxEvjQrYi-DfPGp8WCl6RBqYACLcBGAs/s1600/Brit_NWF_47.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="758" height="337" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-YBhr7mNsg_A/XCjmegZt_0I/AAAAAAAAFzs/qFL6Ug4-LxEvjQrYi-DfPGp8WCl6RBqYACLcBGAs/s400/Brit_NWF_47.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Since I've already added a detachment of the 66th Regiment of Foot (the unlucky Berkshire regiment) it was a no-brainer that I had to add Dr Watson as well (in the introduction of "A Study in Scarlet" it's mentioned that Watson served with the 66th and was wounded during the battle of Maiwand).</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The vignette is based on the excellent hospital set which Perry Miniatures have in their Sudan range. After consulting a couple of reference books and an interesting conversation with sculptor Michael Perry who is very studied regarding the mentioned conflict I realized that the only real hindrance might be the helmets and the characteristic puggree. Luckily in their NWF plastic set there is an officer’s head with a cap bearing a 66 (for the 66th Regiment) which I put on Watson’s body after removing the given pit helmet. Although the neck looks a bit strange I’m rather satisfied with my humble conversion work.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-iJXNarQLpMg/XCjmk3CAjBI/AAAAAAAAFz0/0eN6F4Yt96I70kjEUj06jzpbD6odbdlNgCLcBGAs/s1600/Brit_NWF_48.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="500" data-original-width="899" height="221" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-iJXNarQLpMg/XCjmk3CAjBI/AAAAAAAAFz0/0eN6F4Yt96I70kjEUj06jzpbD6odbdlNgCLcBGAs/s400/Brit_NWF_48.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The stretcher bearer who's standing by had the puggree just grinded away slightly. Then I painted it khaki to resemble the helmets with the iconic covers.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BgW3Z7RdHZ8/XCjmuNdn0BI/AAAAAAAAFz8/zyB5KZA7u1kgi2rok_jfr0xHRsl31IH-ACLcBGAs/s1600/Brit_NWF_50.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="829" data-original-width="477" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BgW3Z7RdHZ8/XCjmuNdn0BI/AAAAAAAAFz8/zyB5KZA7u1kgi2rok_jfr0xHRsl31IH-ACLcBGAs/s320/Brit_NWF_50.JPG" width="184" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As usual I employed mostly Vallejo Model colours as well as the splendid set of skin colours Wargames Foundry is offering. Finally I added a coat of matt varnish and a couple of grass tufts and a couple of pieces of clump foliage.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZWWymuL5pQw/XCjm27Oy7FI/AAAAAAAAF0E/ZZYbZAKkZfE42fAZMQuWmEJiqrlCpMYHACLcBGAs/s1600/Brit_NWF_49.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1021" data-original-width="1005" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZWWymuL5pQw/XCjm27Oy7FI/AAAAAAAAF0E/ZZYbZAKkZfE42fAZMQuWmEJiqrlCpMYHACLcBGAs/s320/Brit_NWF_49.JPG" width="314" /></a></div>

Just a short one before the year comes to its end. Currently NWF is my main project. Although I'm a lousily slow painter my collection of British / Indian troops is growing constantly. Here's a quick view at the latest additions:</div>

My interpretation of the 66th (Berkshire) Regiment of Foot was finished a while ago. At least as a smallish 12 figure detachment. But I needed some more time to prepare the flags. Thus those two brave ensign - who both fell in the battle of Maiwand in 1880 - had to wait some time.</div>

As well as in the Sudan and in Zulu land the British deployed Heliograph teams in Afghanistan to maintain a certain amount of communication. To have a team different from the excellent Sudan models by Perry Miniartures I built up some chaps from a combination of the NWF plastics and the Zulu British plastics by the same company.</div>

Let's do it again!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
After half a year of absence from my blog I'm trying to revive this obervation window to my workbench and relatied things. My apologies to those who came here to see this old article from May and who had to withdraw disappointedly.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It's not that I lost my hobby mojo but during the last months hobby time has been precious. Too precious actually to use it to take pictures and prepare articles I thought but after all I discovered how valuable those connection within the bloggosphere grew to me and that they diserve a lot more care than I spent lately. Thus I'll start as I ended: With a show report.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The first Saturday each year is reserved for one of the most - if not the most - important wargaming shows on the European continent: CRISIS in Antwerp. This year my THS club fellows and me decided to bring fourth a project that mainly my friends Michael, Bernhard and I myself belaboured: The Nortwest Frontier (aka. 2nd Anglo-Afghan War). But this shall be covered in a second articles. First for the show itself, some impressions from the wonderful tables the other clubs brought and for a series of tremendous ecnounters I had.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As usual CRISIS took place in two large hangars near the Schelde river in the centre of Antwerp. Traffic is always an issues these days since there have been extensive roadworks proceeding in whole Antwerp for the last years. Nevertheless we were rather lucky this year. We billeted on the Ibis Budget Antwerp Port and luckily our paths led us around the heaviest construction zones.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Anyway at 10am the show opens for audience and within minutes the larege hangars are filled with hobby enthusiasts from all over Europe. What makes CRISIS so special for us continentals is that a lot of British traders and visitors use the opportunity for a quick jump over the channel. It's always tremendous to see those people face to face who I usually know from Blogger, Facebook or Skype only.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As international as the crowd is are the presenters. Thus clubs from Belgium, the Netherlands, England, France and Germany come there to present their output. Here are some impressions of a few table:</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Later that day the stand of the Too Fat Lardies turned out a most important place to be for me. On Friday I read that the Lardies would bring Adam 'Sidney Roundwood' as aide for their Sharp Practise participation game. Thus I showed up there around 11am and made Sidney's enjoyable acquaintance. We had a good chat about hobby and real life while some other well known fellows creeped up on us. All of a sudden an illustrious fellowship scraped out from the crowd and Dave D. (One man and his brushes), Nick (Moiterei), Christopher (Axebreaker) and most surprising Curt (Analogue Hobbies) appeared. I knew that Dave wanted to come and I had been really looking forward to meeting him but making the other fellows acqaintance was a sublime moment of surprise. Unfortunately Sidney was too busy to join us but we others found the time to have a pint and a chat during which Sander (...) with his son joined us. We had a wonderful hour of conversation which I truly enjoyed beyond all measure. This small blogger gathering really made my day!</div>

At 5pm then CRISIS came to an end. It was a blast of a day in many respects. A great weekend trip with my club friends, a wonderful rally with friends at the show and last but not last a good oportunity for some Christmas shopping. Here's the loot:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-h0RBVosio_M/WhdB8lYc1YI/AAAAAAAAFnE/s-9IhJN14GEXmGHx-G92ccnOM6AVWfYTwCLcBGAs/s1600/Crisis2017_19.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="916" data-original-width="1200" height="488" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-h0RBVosio_M/WhdB8lYc1YI/AAAAAAAAFnE/s-9IhJN14GEXmGHx-G92ccnOM6AVWfYTwCLcBGAs/s640/Crisis2017_19.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Not too much this year but at least...</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
- the CRISIS special miniature 'Till Eulenspiegel'</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
- a set of additional special figures 'Till's Companions'</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
- a wonderful miniature of Lord Uxbridge by Gringo40s</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
- a nice incarnation of the 'Iron Duke' by Wargames Illustrated</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
- some grass tufts from Warbases</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
- walking and neeling camels with baggage by Iron Duke Miniatures</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
- a couple of modern miniatures and a technical by Spectre</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
- a frame of modern plastics from the Crisis bag</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
That's it for now. I'll try to be back soon and will cover our NWF game then. See you soon!</div>
Stefan (aka. Monty)http://www.blogger.com/profile/03298066752782204072noreply@blogger.com11tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6145263361070888644.post-50313854303147413062017-05-27T19:19:00.001+02:002017-05-27T19:28:14.738+02:00Reviewing CONFLICT RHEINLAND<div style="text-align: justify;">
This weekend for the very first time <a href="https://www.conflict-rheinland.de/">CONFLICT RHEINLAND</a> is taking place in <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Langenfeld,_Rhineland">Langenfeld</a>. The city itself isn't too well known I presume but at least it's located between Düsseldorf and Cologne aka. the heart of the Rhine Area. Thus three reasons made a visit there mandatory for me:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
- It's only an hour from the place I'm living</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
- Our club brings a AWI table to the show</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
- The fellows running the show are really decent fellows</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-US4m9B3aUf8/WSmjvmKMFoI/AAAAAAAAFf0/afcQrCAZMWEKTmelx4gu5RZ1Yq0UXVIVQCLcB/s1600/Conflict_2017_001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="609" data-original-width="1200" height="324" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-US4m9B3aUf8/WSmjvmKMFoI/AAAAAAAAFf0/afcQrCAZMWEKTmelx4gu5RZ1Yq0UXVIVQCLcB/s640/Conflict_2017_001.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Thus I headed the train to Düsseldorf at 07:00am where my friend Holger picked me up and took me to the club house where the show took place. After approaching Torsten and Thorsten the two major heads behind the show I met my THS club fellows at our table:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rVTQcYddxoY/WSmj2ADjh4I/AAAAAAAAFf8/FScO2_pdLPg2nrEqbJpkEXtDl4rvNJKewCLcB/s1600/Conflict_2017_002.JPG" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" data-original-height="752" data-original-width="1200" height="250" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rVTQcYddxoY/WSmj2ADjh4I/AAAAAAAAFf8/FScO2_pdLPg2nrEqbJpkEXtDl4rvNJKewCLcB/s320/Conflict_2017_002.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-SkzzauFABaE/WSmtlamDJiI/AAAAAAAAFhc/LFLbUiD5KrESwyGbQt54gnSN3lZ3E7ChgCLcB/s1600/Conflict_2017_016.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="563" data-original-width="750" height="300" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-SkzzauFABaE/WSmtlamDJiI/AAAAAAAAFhc/LFLbUiD5KrESwyGbQt54gnSN3lZ3E7ChgCLcB/s400/Conflict_2017_016.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
My friend Heinz prepared the table and most of the terrain and figures on it. It a AWI game based on some events during the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saratoga_campaign">Saratoga Campaign</a> in 1777. Experimentally I made a short video of the British comun with my mobile phone:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dz2makH99bZH9H-lde2lZokW4xUDM26JCTmfr2LnJW6bDHdhHN2hdazWWp2lZvLz_2TcvnYEZrA3V7D4IdA-A' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Sorry for the poor quality. On the phone it was much better but after uploading it looks kind of downsampled... Anyway the tune you are hearing comes from a small gadget Heinz integrated in the scenery:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-TqA-7k2FF10/WSmmJEDq8MI/AAAAAAAAFgI/PdHr1U9VqSsSKg2niNRlwfcVmhK3T5v1gCLcB/s1600/Conflict_2017_003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="530" data-original-width="750" height="282" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-TqA-7k2FF10/WSmmJEDq8MI/AAAAAAAAFgI/PdHr1U9VqSsSKg2niNRlwfcVmhK3T5v1gCLcB/s400/Conflict_2017_003.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
But besides ourselves there were some other clubs delivering interesting and exciting tables as well as wonderful participation games. Especially the <i><a href="http://www.ambushalleygames.net/">Force on Force</a></i> table caught my attention and finally I found an excellent introduction into this exciting game:</div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Hunt for Red October</td></tr>

But besides that there were more nice tables, good games and fine fellows. Here's a selection of pictures:</div>

After all there were a couple of really excellent tables although the place of event was rather small with about 250m². But I saw people from Hannover as well as chaps from Karlsruhe which is a radius of 300km. In my humble opinion that's a great influence for a small show during its first year. From my point of view Torsten and Thorsten performed a sublime job organising this event and I dearly hope that for them it was as successful as for us visitors. If Conflict establishes itself it could become an excellent familiar show perfectly set between the gigantic players Tactica and Crisis. Best of luck boys!</div>

Of course yours truly wasn't able to keep all the quids he brought. In Langenfeld were only a few local traders but nevertheless Didier's (<a href="https://more-terrain.de/">More Terrain</a>) work seduced me enough to acquire some pieces for Congo:</div>

As I hinted at earlier the newish <a href="http://www.wargamesfoundry.com/congo">Congo game</a> caught me somehow. Luckily has a low figure count only and I'm creating a British expedition with some of my 1880s Brits and a couple of additions. The setting of the game of course dictates that some native african figures matter.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IPpzmzy-_G0/WSREC2tXCwI/AAAAAAAAFew/WUZde6hkp_g8Gg4VM9D980WFzFG9s3WpACLcB/s1600/Congo_001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IPpzmzy-_G0/WSREC2tXCwI/AAAAAAAAFew/WUZde6hkp_g8Gg4VM9D980WFzFG9s3WpACLcB/s320/Congo_001.JPG" width="172" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Until now I havent painted any other figures than more or less Europeans or North Americans. Since I'm always a bit hesitant with experiments I decided to paint a native bearer before tackling Askari and Ruga Ruga units. The figure is a piece of Wargames Foundry's wondeful Darkest Africa range and as far as I know it's been sculpted by Mark Copplestone.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xGkx9HjgQ6k/WSREyIW969I/AAAAAAAAFe4/dGkUu2Jz8Nsm-Wul9ncqBjSr3QM0W4UuACLcB/s1600/Congo_002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xGkx9HjgQ6k/WSREyIW969I/AAAAAAAAFe4/dGkUu2Jz8Nsm-Wul9ncqBjSr3QM0W4UuACLcB/s320/Congo_002.JPG" width="183" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
The figure is sculpted really well and especially the facial expression is very characterful. Only the muscles of the arms and legs could be defined more clearly to make painting easier, For the choice of colours I consulted a rather old article I found in the Cool Mini or Not homepage. It deals with skin tones for different ethnic groups and gives some excellent colour suggestions from Vallejo's Model Color range. For further reading find the article <a href="http://www.coolminiornot.com/articles/1310-ethnic-skintones">here</a>.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NmEV3y64128/WSRGNavrl3I/AAAAAAAAFfE/dk4O9jrMKxw_Qys2E7qRlge5dFSkS2hiACLcB/s1600/Congo_003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NmEV3y64128/WSRGNavrl3I/AAAAAAAAFfE/dk4O9jrMKxw_Qys2E7qRlge5dFSkS2hiACLcB/s320/Congo_003.JPG" width="190" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
After all I'm pretty satisfied with the look. Without any doubt I need to work on working out muscles but the skin tone is rather okay I think. It appears a bit too bronze coloured but darker shades would disappear when watched from gaming distance.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
What do you think?</div>
Stefan (aka. Monty)http://www.blogger.com/profile/03298066752782204072noreply@blogger.com21tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6145263361070888644.post-5531961663162723772017-05-15T21:01:00.005+02:002017-05-15T21:01:52.631+02:00Resin hardened, river finished<div style="text-align: justify;">
Actually the resin hardened as fast as stated on the bottle - namely in more or less 8 hours. However in my humble opinion the result is really satisfying. Especially because it was my very first workpiece with resin:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-liByrZBv2R8/WRn4ItwUpWI/AAAAAAAAFeA/cC00JgR7vPkkPOzIPznr2Exo8nKP9YRcgCLcB/s1600/Fluss_05.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="272" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-liByrZBv2R8/WRn4ItwUpWI/AAAAAAAAFeA/cC00JgR7vPkkPOzIPznr2Exo8nKP9YRcgCLcB/s400/Fluss_05.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As you see it dryed cristal clear and provides nice depth to the river. Overall I didn't discern significant shrinkage. Only the edges became slightly bent up.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-91GiH2iDHbY/WRn4Imc7lZI/AAAAAAAAFd8/sGrMEck3GbsfMM78tj2xjYRAXA-HmvcUACLcB/s1600/Fluss_06.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="305" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-91GiH2iDHbY/WRn4Imc7lZI/AAAAAAAAFd8/sGrMEck3GbsfMM78tj2xjYRAXA-HmvcUACLcB/s400/Fluss_06.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Yesterday I fetched my trusted rowing boat and took a couple of shots. Unfortunately as poorly illuminated as the former pictures:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NM2LobcUBV8/WRn4IsJuVqI/AAAAAAAAFd4/3N4b0x_23-QbA4KW7eQdf3i9rfiStobTQCLcB/s1600/Fluss_07.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="271" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NM2LobcUBV8/WRn4IsJuVqI/AAAAAAAAFd4/3N4b0x_23-QbA4KW7eQdf3i9rfiStobTQCLcB/s400/Fluss_07.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
After all using the two-component resin was much easier to use than I was feared. Especially the 2:1 mixing ratio is simple to handle. Now I'm pondering about using some water effect gel like <i><a href="https://www.noch.de/de/wasser-effekte.html">Noch Wassereffekte</a></i> or <i><a href="http://woodlandscenics.woodlandscenics.com/show/item/C1212">Woodland Scenics Water Effects</a></i> to represent ripples and waves...</div>

During the last weeks I've been working on a couple of things: Some more <i>Black Plague</i> survivors, some tribesmen and Brits for Northwest Frontier and a nearly forgotten project of mine: A river.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Actually the realisation of the issue came together by chance. Somehow some pieces of MDF I acquires months ago fell into my hand just in time when peripatetic Mrs Monty spend a couple of days by the sea with those Janus-faced creatures yours truly calls his beloved daughters. However buoyant, joyful and frivolous as I was I collected my trustworthy jigsaw and decided to bring this long procrastinated project into being. A far reaching decision as you will discover later.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Initially things started easy. The MDF board was literally cut into shape in no time. The river banks were constructed of 10mm polystyrene, shaped with our Crème Brulée torch and covered with two layers of plaster bandage. A mix of sand, gravel, pine bark and PVA glue made it a reasonable structured riverside than :</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wmraexrsPCM/WRTNJX-2x3I/AAAAAAAAFc8/hS4oj6zDi0YfG8n2lHvpDbG9Lbf_IlsiACLcB/s1600/Fluss_01.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="226" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wmraexrsPCM/WRTNJX-2x3I/AAAAAAAAFc8/hS4oj6zDi0YfG8n2lHvpDbG9Lbf_IlsiACLcB/s640/Fluss_01.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Now I had to decide whether to target for blueish water or to emulate a muddy, brownish river. After some pondering and a series of two experiments I opted the dirtier version. In my humble opinion it looked more credible and it appeared more useful for my ongoing NWF and Congo projects:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5s8-bEbGob0/WRTObVO3KpI/AAAAAAAAFdQ/IllhkT7BhQM9a5zd3en51Q-VisPK2IKzwCLcB/s1600/Fluss_02.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="420" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5s8-bEbGob0/WRTObVO3KpI/AAAAAAAAFdQ/IllhkT7BhQM9a5zd3en51Q-VisPK2IKzwCLcB/s640/Fluss_02.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
After the embankment was humbly colored and planted yours truly had to decide how to recreate the river itself. Robert, a friend of mine and well-known contributor in the Lead Adventure Forum as 'Steam Flunky', designed a awesome 15mm with a river of resin running through it. Since I caught sight of this piece of art I was keen on creating a resin river myself. Thus I consulted a specialist dealer for epoxy resin and saturated polyester resin. The truly kind and helpful salesmen there suggested a two-component epoxy resin called '<a href="https://www.fiberglas-discount.de/epoxidharz-resinpal-2416">Resinpal 2416</a>'. Thus I ordered about three pounds of the stuff and prepared the piece for pouring:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-78Sh639x2Go/WRTRklx_33I/AAAAAAAAFdc/9GB7jB825AMi0BUTdEf-gjie1YchB2VhwCLcB/s1600/Fluss_03.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="490" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-78Sh639x2Go/WRTRklx_33I/AAAAAAAAFdc/9GB7jB825AMi0BUTdEf-gjie1YchB2VhwCLcB/s640/Fluss_03.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
From various online tutorials and Youtube videos I learned that sealing the mould is absolutely essential. Thus I created two clasp pieces for both ends of the terrain piece. They are made of a slat of wood, a strip of sponge rubber and a thin layer of plastic film. The idea was to create a piece which is able to carry pressure (wood), to cling to small irregularities and to provide a surface the resin would not stick to.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
After that the resin was to be mixed. Fortunately this <i>Resinpal 2416</i> needs a very comfortable ratio of 2:1 meaning two pieces of resin and one piece of hardener. Yours truly calculated 225g of material needed to cover the riverbed with 5mm implying 150g of resin and 75g of hardener. No problem with Mrs Monty's trustworthy kitchen scale.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dKcN5Tv03QI/WRTUhxWhseI/AAAAAAAAFdo/Ln1wiLUvLiAQBUhkwz9xGUZbIeUlCiPhgCLcB/s1600/Fluss_04.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dKcN5Tv03QI/WRTUhxWhseI/AAAAAAAAFdo/Ln1wiLUvLiAQBUhkwz9xGUZbIeUlCiPhgCLcB/s400/Fluss_04.JPG" width="266" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Because I wanted a rather muddy river I added some - namely 15 - drops of Armypainter Quickshade 'Strong Tone' and produced a clear but brownish liquid. Then finally the moment of truth came and the resin was to be poured into the carefully prepared river bed. Please join my and be eye witness of the exiting moment:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /><iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dwnAGJrCLXCKgY9Jjjo9G33WDz3_Kpsygy1J9vyM_g3zPq2AL88Qb1qlUzc5cdR40qjopXLoRMvGdINAS1T7g' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Afterwards the most exhausting hours came. The resin had to set and to harden. How would the resin set? Would it really harden dry and non-sticky? Would it remain clear?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Questions over questions... Stay tuned.</div>

Lately a friend of mine brought the newish <a href="http://www.monolithedition.com/conan-en/">CONAN board game</a> to our club meeting and lead us into the world of <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyborian_Age">Hyboria</a>. This however brought an old love to life again. Although I've never been a true fan of <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_E._Howard">Robert E. Howard's</a> I wasn't able to escape from the very special vibes of the iconic <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conan_the_Barbarian_(1982_film)">1982 movie</a>. Anyway I had to channelise this inspiration and turned my attention to Zombicide: Black Plague again and digged out the survivor which is clearly inspired by the famous Cimmerian: Grom.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-odaJMbntU7Q/WQDoI3XTi6I/AAAAAAAAFcM/_HtB7nRX2x8u8eBvPKyHfy_im23jgzBgwCLcB/s1600/Z-BP_paint_020.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="310" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-odaJMbntU7Q/WQDoI3XTi6I/AAAAAAAAFcM/_HtB7nRX2x8u8eBvPKyHfy_im23jgzBgwCLcB/s320/Z-BP_paint_020.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Grom was one of the characters that came as an Kickstarter exclusive additional buy. Together with his companion Thalia (an obvious interpretation of <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Sonja">Red Sonja</a>) he was available for $18 but now the duet it's listed for much higher prices on the secondary market.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wo6jbk8Ea3c/WQDo1w6xeoI/AAAAAAAAFcU/xlefL9wkTms_81ZWF0xp79lXc5j0FyeHQCLcB/s1600/Z-BP_paint_021.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wo6jbk8Ea3c/WQDo1w6xeoI/AAAAAAAAFcU/xlefL9wkTms_81ZWF0xp79lXc5j0FyeHQCLcB/s200/Z-BP_paint_021.JPG" width="145" /></a><a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2KE9kFWwuv8/WQDo3p0QSKI/AAAAAAAAFcY/fbzsLeozObA0HdtfJhM6SdQB_nQLSEV6wCLcB/s1600/Z-BP_paint_023.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2KE9kFWwuv8/WQDo3p0QSKI/AAAAAAAAFcY/fbzsLeozObA0HdtfJhM6SdQB_nQLSEV6wCLcB/s200/Z-BP_paint_023.JPG" width="132" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The paintjob was pretty much straight forward. As you see our barbarian friend is hot blooded enough to go with the absolute minimum of clothing. Thus there was a lot of skin to paint and it was indeed a very interesting experience to work out his enviable muscles. The six skin tones of Wargames Foundry's excellent paint set were of invaluable help of course. For the other parts yours truly employed different shades of brownish colours.</div>

The base is covered with the usual mix of sand and stones, painted greyish brown and drybrushed slightly. It will receive some pieces of clump foliage and static grass later but not before Grom is varnished. As usual I took the pictures before.</div>

Well then... Next time our gaming group heads for smashing some zombie heads we'll have a sturdy companion. He looks pretty able to plough through hordes of undead.</div>

From time to time I leave the fields of history and take a walk back to the realms of fantasy where my passion for miniature painting started ages ago. So it's very suitable that a fantasy game with excellent figures has become our favourite board game with friends: Zombicide: Black Plague.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Hence after having painted a couple of heroes last year to start with I turned my attention to a supplement with heroes based on artworks of <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Bonner">Paul Bonner</a>. It includes four characters of very different appearance: A dwarf, an ogre, a female sergeant and an inquisitor. Although I prepared all four of them the most impressive figure took my attention first:</div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FrlRe-YXoD8/WPIeIfRVexI/AAAAAAAAFbY/UGS8uh4owhcpujiR0kHcEASc2qeBP0OrgCLcB/s1600/Z-BP_paint_017.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FrlRe-YXoD8/WPIeIfRVexI/AAAAAAAAFbY/UGS8uh4owhcpujiR0kHcEASc2qeBP0OrgCLcB/s320/Z-BP_paint_017.JPG" width="298" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Klom the Orge</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Klom is a massive figure measuring 42mm in his stooping position. That means that all parts on this miniature are large enough to deserve a special share of attention. On the one hand that makes painting this fellow rather time consuming but on the other hand that delivers the chance to try out the limits of skill.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Dwg92U54o0M/WPIgv_o_XqI/AAAAAAAAFbk/3D2Isd6jKbU4YcEKwpRsEDT9cg6oz03bwCLcB/s1600/Z-BP_paint_018.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Dwg92U54o0M/WPIgv_o_XqI/AAAAAAAAFbk/3D2Isd6jKbU4YcEKwpRsEDT9cg6oz03bwCLcB/s320/Z-BP_paint_018.JPG" width="277" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As usual I employed Wargames Foundry colours for the skin parts and a variety of Vallejo colours for the other parts. It was a great experience to work on the larger areas and try to work out the folds of Klom's gown. But the most exciting part was the face. It's significantly larger than at other 28mm miniatures and it's full of expression. The large scale granted me the chance to go much deeper into the facial traits and I'm really satisfied with the result.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
As you see the base isn't finished yet but I couldn't wait to take pictures. I'll keep the base simple because Klom's chain unfortunately blocks the way of the brush.</div>

Some great sources of inspiration for this project where the Zombicide web page which holds the character card and some background information about Klom (<a href="https://zombicide.com/en/pg/klom/">here</a>). Besides that gifted Michael Awdry painted him last summer and created a wonderful interpretation of this crumpy fellow (<a href="http://28mmvictorianwarfare.blogspot.de/2016/07/zombicide-black-plague-klom.html">here</a>).</div>
